Sonnen makes his choice for UFC fight of the year so far

Last week at the International Fight Week at UFC 317, Floor Weights Brandon Royval and Joshua Van Op de Undercard and it resulted in one of the best battles to date this year.

UFC legend Chael Sonnen, however, has chosen the UFC 311 Co-Main event between Merab Dvalishvili and Umar Nurmagomedov as his fight of the year from 2025 so far.

Although the Bantamweight title fight turned out to be an extremely exciting fight, the choice of Sonen is considered controversial considering some of the other fights that happened.

“I have to go with Merab vs Umar, a star was made. At that moment the audience did not give Merab, just to share that specific night with you, he had to pull the curtain before 'money' (Renato) Moicano, he was not a hunter in the main event and he was supposed to lose that fight,” Sonen said on good guy.

“I think he was close to a 3/1 underdog and in fact Merab lost that fight until he was not, he came back and started showboating, things that people were generally irritated when Merab did, they started to get behind him, the audience started to come in.

“At the end of those 25 minutes, he not alone and clarified that he is the best in the world, he also won the people and that is very difficult to do,” Sonnen went on.

What is the next step for Merab Dvalishvili?

After his victory over the Russian phenomenon, 'The Machine' again successfully defended his title in a rematch against Sean O'Malley on UFC 316.

With his victory, the Georgian resembled himself as the greatest bantamweight of all time, so Dominick Cruz and TJ Dillashaw caught up.

And with that, his next test is almost confirmed against the old competition Cory Sandhagen, who has been waiting for an undisputed title shot for several years now.
