Newcastle chiefs discuss shock move for Arsenal and Man Utd transfer target

Newcastle are among the Premier League clubs that are looking for a new striker this summer and they have driven the idea to make a move for Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa

Newcastle is the newest club that is considering a move for Ollie Watkins with Arsenal and Manchester United, the Aston Villa star also keeps in mind in the midst of their search for a new striker.

Watkins, 29, came out as a target for Arsenal in January when the Gunners were looking for a new Nr. 9. And although a deal was not closed at that time, the English star was again a target this summer, although Arsenal is now in advanced conversations about a deal for Viktor Gyokeres.

United are also admirers of Watkins, who has years of Premier League -tree tree and a charity record at Villa.

And it has now emerged, via e -mail, that the name of Watkins has also surfaced in Newcastle after the departure of Callum Wilson.

The Magpies want a new frontman to compete with Alexander Isak and both Watkins and Yoane Wissa from Brentford have recently been 'discussed' by the club.

However, the report further adds that it is still too considered whether Watkins – or Wissa – would have the appetite to come in and compete with Isak, who is undisputed first optional fellow from the club. Both would probably also cost a considerable amount and on 29 and 28 years respectively, neither Watkins of Wissa would have much sold out value.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is another Newcastle striker and is a free agent after he decided to leave Everton at the end of his contract. It is intriguing that he is also offered to Manchester United.

While the movement of Arsenal for Gyokeres makes a dive for Watkins unlikely, United considers their no. 9 options and can still take a step for the frontman of Aston Villa.

Newcastle is currently closing a £ 55 million deal for the former winger of Manchester United, Anthony Elanga, but his light in attack after Wilson confirmed that he would leave St James' Park after five years after not matching a contract extension.

In a statement he said: “It's time to say goodbye after an incredible few years in the tone. Thanks for everything. We were strong together because of the highlights and some lows to help the club experience new heights.

“I am so proud that I have worn the iconic number 9 shirt and added some more history to it. Scoring at the Gallowgate one is really as special as they say.

“All good things come to an end, but there is no doubt that Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my hearts of hearts.

“Thanks for the memories. CW9.”
