Fortunately, every member of the Wales Squad and the back room staff were not injured, although initially shaken after their team coach collided with a car on the way to training in St. Gallen the day before the game against France.
All 23 players have dusted themselves, checked with each other and after manager Rhian Wilkinson decided 'Let's Go', they changed plans and trained on their basic training ground in Weinfelden.
It was not planned, it was a disturbance, but being able to respond and make good decisions is what Wales was planning for and that is what they desperately hope for France in a game where they cannot lose themselves, otherwise they will leave Euro 2025 after the group stage.
However, let's be honest, not many expect that Wales from Group D. The statistics gave Wales less than 10 percent chance to end up on the top two places and with that opening defeat against the Netherlands, it is now the proverbial mountain to climb.
Mind you, the Euro 2025 slogan is “Summit” and Wales has literally taken that by announcing their Euro team from the top of the JR Wyddfa, the highest peak in Wales, so the link to overcome obstacles and reaching the top is already a worn path.
If – and 'if' is really the right word, Wales can get a kind of positive result against France that will keep them in the tournament for the time being, then this is a performance to remember and enjoy.
France looked good against England, even though the lion ribbons had the feeling that they had not had the best nights themselves. Perhaps that is trivialization what a decent outfit the French are here in Switzerland. If they play with the same smoothness as on Saturday, Wales will have a tough night.
So how can Wales compete? I will start with an easy observation – if France is a bit off their game or takes Wales too light, then that will raise things.
What Wales also lacks in experience and depth at this level, if a team leaves, then what Wales has plenty of grit, determination and fighting. They will grab it because the manager will have that plan in her locker.
The chances that France is too far away from the levels they have reached against England are not great because they just feel like a team that is now in a good place.
So for Wales they will need more than just being a good fight. I think Wales has a decent defensive unity, regardless of whether the former captain of Chelsea and Wales Sophie Ingle makes her long -awaited return to the starting XI or not.
They can comprehend if they get help from midfield and if they are asked to defend in 'last ditch', they are not afraid of that either.
An area where they have to play much more is midfield. The transition from midfield to the flanks or even a striker hung on the shoulder of the last defender, never caused enormous problems for Dutch defense last weekend.
Wales has never really entered the Netherlands. Don't get me wrong, they had their moments, but they came from set pieces and the second phase of those.
The errors of Wales last weekend and the high standards of the Netherlands mean that Wilkinson and her coaches have been busy in recent days to eliminate the basic errors and fall into concentration while trying to get another 10 percent – if no more – from the players.
If Wales wants to mix it with euros and world cups, this is now the level and it gets higher every tournament. A version of the highest standard – the best of their lives – is required in Wales, probably 90 minutes in contrast to they have ever produced.
Every nation seems to be getting better, so Wales has to reach the stars, or perhaps for now, reach to the highest peak in Switland and surrounded by the Alps, that is a pretty big task.
