Tommy Fury pulls out of Darren Till fight over ‘mental warfare’ press conference threat

Tommy Fury has declared he will not fight Darren Till next month after a bizarre threat from the former UFC star.

The Love Island star and undefeated professional boxer was set to make his return to the ring on January 18 in a Misfits Boxing main event against the former UFC title contender. But now Fury has declared the fight has been abandoned after he was threatened by the Liverpool native during the press conference.

Till apparently joked that he would be prepared to deliver a head kick in the event that he lost the fight, and the pair had to be dragged apart in an awkward brawl. And now Fury says he's worried the threat was serious, and that's why he won't fight.

Tommy Fury withdraws from fight with Darren Till

With just over a month to go before the pair meet at the Co-Op Live in Manchester, Tommy Fury now claims he will not fight Darren next month. Tickets have already been sold for the massive venue, and Till is still in camp for the fight.

But his threat that he would use MMA tactics if he lost that night has seemingly scared his rival, who has now withdrawn from the fight. Fury wrote on Instagram stories: “I can't believe I'm writing this but I'm not now fighting Darren Till on January 18, 2025.

“The one simple reason is that Darren has stated time and time again that he does not want to play by professional boxing rules and that if he loses the fight he will resort to kicking and other stupid MMA tactics.

“I'm a professional boxer, I've been out of the ring for over a year and I wanted this to be a great BOXING fight for the fans. I wasted weeks at training camp.

“We are working hard to find a new opponent and date. I promise I will get a better opponent and fight better for you. Good news around the corner.”

Darren Till hits back at Tommy Fury as he pulls out of the grudge match

Darren Till has since taken to social media to express his shock at the withdrawal and spoke out against Fury. He insists the comment was tongue-in-cheek and used as mental warfare, similar to the way Conor McGregor teased such a move against Floyd Mayweather.

His boxing debut ended in chaos in July, and this time he was looking forward to a more serious outing. “Tommy Fury, you are the biggest sex house I have ever met in my life, don't ever call yourself a fighter again,” he wrote in a lengthy post on X.

'I sold the fight to give you and me more money, you absolutely empty-headed, fighting family, my a** you and your father's*** houses. I don't need to throw kicks, you got knocked out, you divided, we made money on this fight because I wasn't you.

“I was building it, you should fight and thank me… again and again… no one wants to fight me… Jake Paul, what are you up to, you fat dummy?”

Darren Till will still fight on January 18 as scheduled

However, it's not all bad news for Misfits Boxing fans. Darren Till's boxing manager Lee Eaton has confirmed he will still be competing on the day and claims this has been confirmed by the promotion.

The veteran boxing manager and matchmaker also noted that Till had stated behind the scenes that he was willing to give up his entire wallet if he actually broke the rules.

“To be clear, Darren was asked to sell the fight and he did,” Eaton wrote on January 18 will still fight! !!”
