Real Madrid left the Club World Cup on Wednesday after losing 4-0 against Paris Saint-Germain, in what Luka Modric's last performance was for the club. The contract of the Croatian midfielder has reached the end of the tournament, and he will now continue in the Santiago Bernabeu after 13 glorious years.
And behind the back of his last game in the famous white sweater, Modric spoke with the official media channels of Real Madrid to convey his emotions. According to the sport, he thought about his time at the club.
“An unforgettable, glorious and winning phase has ended. What I have experienced gives me more joy. I remember everything I have achieved here very happy, even when it is over. I have grown as a player and as a person. Real Madrid has given me everything that has given football and what I will always be a madridista.
“It has been a long journey, but unforgettable. I have grown a lot as a player and as a person. I have another house outside my house, because Madrid and Spain are my second home. I am very happy and I am sure that after a while I am more aware of what I have achieved, because I need some time I have.”
Modric, who will join Milan next week, was asked about his feelings of being Real Madrid's most successful player in history in terms of won trophies.
“Hearing my songs makes me happy and proud of what I have achieved. The player who has won the most titles at the best club in the history of football is impressive. There are also other things, such as the affection of the people. I always keep with me because it is something that you never abandoned.
Modric also revealed that Real Madrid's last victory over Atletico Madrid in 2014 was his favorite moment as a Los Blancos player.
“The dominance of the last 12 or 13 years began, which has been incredible and won six Champions League in 10 years. I always mention La Decima because it was impressive, and the way we won it perfectly defines what Real Madrid is: never give up to the end.
