Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has indeed contributed to help the club try to move this summer at Captain Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. The Catalan giants have signed Joan Garcia to be their new number one this summer, and hope that the exit of Ter Stegen could free some space in their salary limit.
The 33-year-old has left for his Barcelona contract for three years and is one of the best paid members of the club. He has declared public, does not intend to leave Barcelona and is planning to compete for the number one place with Garcia.
According to Sport, Flick had conversations with Ter Stegen about his future on Friday and he communicated that he would no longer be their starter next season. On Thursday, Flick returned from his summer vacation and dinner with his assistants Marcus Sorg and Toni Tapalovic to discuss that evening that evening.
The Catalan says that Flick had an honest conversation with Ter Stegen and explained that the decision to sign and use Garcia was strategic, and that he had faith in the 24-year-old to be the number one of Barcelona. He also made it clear that Wojciech Szczesny would remain as number two, and so would be third choice.
Barcelona's manager even further said that Ter Stegen thinks it is the right thing to do, then he must continue to fight for his position. Nevertheless, he wanted to know with the times to make alternative plans if he wanted to. Barcelona will not look for an exit plan for him, but is willing to conclude an agreement to terminate his deal and make him a free agent, pay one of his three remaining years to his deal.
Nevertheless, it is the intention of Ter Stegen to stay and fight for his place, and his conviction is that if the call is made based on sporting merit, he will end up as number one. He was also frustrated by the club after stories about his character, the feeling that they were a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation.
