Chelsea has the youngest team in the Premier League, but a former fan favorite at Stamford Bridge has identified three players who are ready to embrace leader roles for the blues
Former Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill has determined the future leaders of the club after he himself has evolved into a role of responsibility at Stamford Bridge. The double Premier League winner arrived in Little Fanfare when he came to Chelsea from Bolton in January 2012, but supporters grew from Cahill because of his dedication to the business.
The side of Enzo Maresca had the youngest team in the Premier League last season. Chelsea had an average age of only 23.6 years – almost a full year less than the nearest Rivals Brighton.
However, a heavy representation of young people often comes with a shortage of leadership and can be an area in which the drive to recruit young prospects damages the club in the short term.
Cahill, who conquered the Champions League in Chelsea in his first six months, joined an impressive figure during his seven-year term of office in West London. And the club ambassador has appointed the prospects under Maresca that he believes what is needed to lead the newest revival of the blues.
“I think Levi [Colwill]. He is one of them, “he told Football.London, thanks to Betmgm.” I remember doing a TV game [as a pundit]And I asked him about that because I felt that it is certainly his next rope to his bow. He plays at a level that is top, and now you can add that other way to you, that different character in terms of leadership.
“He can be 100% one of those leaders and that center. I had a different education when I was in Chelsea. Like you said, me [joined] Fully established international serial winners. I came up with that, and I was the one who wasn't.
“I was the one who had to learn and listen and had to grow in that role. I did that in an older age than what Levi is now, so he can certainly do the same.”
Colwill, 22, has long been marked by Chelsea's Academy Chiefs as a future pivot for the Senior Squadron. His impressive loan tint at Brighton, who tried to permanently sign the player, followed by his consistency in defense for Maresca, has already made him a favorite among fans.
It was a time to enjoy when the four -fold international in England yielded the decisive goal against Nottingham Forest to guarantee the place of Chelsea in the Champions League last season. After he had worn the bracelet of the captain for the first time in December 2023 at 2023, he also led the team during their Triumphant Club World Cup -Run this summer.
Colwill has shuffled between defensive roles, but now seems to have cemented his place in the central defense for Chelsea. Yet he is not the only clear starter tipped by Cahill, who in 2022 hung up his boots to stimulate the club at the next level.
“I think Moises Caicedo, I think he has that,” added the 39-year-old. “Again, just know him, speak with players, the way he leads around the training area, the way he trains, the levels he requires. I think he already has that with its sounds.
“Of course you have and stuff [Fernandez]. He is one of the experienced players there who can bring a lot. There are a few in and under that, and I feel that now is the challenge for some of these younger players who come through regularly to lift that next level. “
The situation becomes much more complex when Caicedo, 23, nor Fernandez, 24, no English if their native language regards. Nevertheless, both Mavericks in midfield have shown actions on the field often much greater weight than words can.
World cup champion Fernandez and Caicedo, who already have Chelsea at points, experienced their share in the growing pains since they participate for a combined £ 222 million. Nevertheless, both crucial figures were in the past term after imposing 101 performances between them, so that their best campaigns in blue were delivered so far.
It is hardly shocking that the duo has become so indispensable, given their eye-watery price tags. Nevertheless, modern football has repeatedly shown us a huge edition, does not necessarily translate into bang for his money.
Chelsea has formed their own leader and potential club captain in Colwill. However, Cahill is also encouraged to see players such as Fernandez and Caicedo, who was the target of controversial criticism by Paul Scholes, who show their value, and hopes that they will continue to do this for years.
