Man Utd forced into transfer market as Andre Onana set for extended spell on sidelines

Manchester United suffered a big blow after Andre Onana had sustained a hamstring injury, in which the Red Devils considered signing a new keeper as a result of this

Manchester United could be forced on the transfer market after goalkeeper Andre Onana had an injury hit. Onana has picked up a hamstring problem that will see him miss the start of the season.

The 29-year-old has had a mixed enchantment at Old Trafford since he came to United from Inter Milan in 2023 for a fee of around £ 50 million, which came under fire last season after making several major mistakes.

Despite speculation about a potential exit this summer, Onana looked like starting the new season as number 1 of United. Ruben Amorim's plans have now been received a big blow now that Onana has been injured.

According to the Telegraph, United fears that the goalkeeper will be out of operation for six to eight weeks and that means that he may not be fit on time for their opening match against Arsenal on August 17. He will travel during the pre-season tour of the club through the United States, but will not play.

The report states that Amorim now 'weighs another keeper', with Altay Bayindir, Radek Vitek and Tom Heaton the other options at the club. The Red Devils have been associated with Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, but it is claimed that a deal is not being edited at the moment.

The friendly matches of United start on July 19 when they are confronted with Rivals Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden. They will then travel to America for competitions against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before they return home for a friendly against Fiorentina in Old Trafford on August 9.

United hopes to bounce back from their worst Premier League campaign, after he finished 15th last season. They have aimed at strengthening their attack in the transfer market so far, so that £ 62.5 million was released to sign Matheus Cunha van Wolves.

A deal is also being worked for Bryan Mbeumo, although Brentford's director Football Phil Giles has hinted that the attacker could stay in West London. “He had a fantastic season,” Giles said BBC Sport last month.

“We were expecting great interest in him, we had great interest in him. He has his ideas about where he wants to take his career, of course he does that – he is good within his rights to do that. We are constantly in dialogue with him and representatives about it.

“As it now looks that we have no agreement for him to leave. It is not impossible that next season he still is a Brentford player if we agree that he will stay. It must be the right deal for Brentford, every club will tell you that.

“If it's not good deal, why should we do it? He is definitely one of our best players, if not our best player, and we need our best players. There is no harm to keep your best players.”
