Jon Anik names ‘most worthy’ UFC contender to fight for the BMF title next if Max Holloway beats Dustin Poirier

The UFC main commentator wants to see another suitable name that is added to the BMF avoidance after Dustin Poirier Max Holloway challenges UFC 318.

The BMF title, made for Jorge Masvidal's UFC 244 collision with Nate Diaz in 2019, will be at stake for the fourth time during this month's pay-per-view event in New Orleans.

Poirier will challenge Champion Holloway on UFC 318, because 'The Diamond' adds the symbolic belt to his mixed martial arts CV in what his last performance in the Octagon will mark.

'Blessed' hopes to spoil those plans and to become the first man to successfully defended the title after Holloway Justin Gaethje escaped from the BMF throne on UFC 300. And if he is successful, a potentially perfect next challenger could wait in the wings.

Jon Anik wants to see Hooker in a UFC BMF title fight

During a recent appearance on Submission Radio, UFC Play-by-Play commentator Jon Anik outlined a logical next step for the BMF title after UFC 318, if it remains in the possession of Holloway.

“Then hooker, I think, is the most worthy hunter in every division that has never fought for the BMF title to get the chance to do this,” said Anik.

“So a fight between Max Holloway and Dan Hooker, I think, is very logical for the BMF title Max Holloway was to successfully defend it here against Dustin Poirier.”

Anik, however, added that he would rather see Holloway the lightweight title than making a second defense of the BMF belt.

Dan Hooker mentioned the BMF title under the options after its last UFC victory

Based on a few comments from the past, Hooker would probably be more than down to compete for the symbolic title along the line.

After his split decision victory over Mateusz Gamrot on UFC 305 in August 2024, Hooker called a BMF fight between the options he pursued, alongside Conor McGregor and a potential eliminator for the Divisional Lightweight Belt.

“Look at me now. I want them all, brother,” Hooker told Daniel Cormier during his interview after the fight. “I want the BMF, I want Conor McGregor, I want a title -eliminator. I want everything, brother. I want it all, Sean (Shelby). Woohoo.”

'The Hangman' has since had his goals parked by a broken hand, so that he was forced from a planned collision with Gaethje on UFC 313 last March and has since kept him on the sidelines.
