Paris Saint-Germain Captain Marquinhos insists that their recent defeat in the FIFA Club World Cup final is not reducing the remarkable performance of their extraordinary season.
Despite an impressive run in the United States, the Parisians were surprised with a 3-0 defeat against Premier League side Chelsea in a brightly disputed final at Metlife Stadium.
A first half of the Golden Ball winner Cole Palmer, followed by a goal by João Pedro, sealed a historic victory for the London-based side.
Anyway, the Brazilian has weakened the defeat and insisted that he has not overshadow their excellent 2024-25 campaign, so that they had won a Maiden Champions League title, the French Cup and Ligue 1 Crown.
“It is always difficult to lose a final. It is the only competition you can't afford to lose. But when we look back, I think we had an incredible tournament,” Marquinhos told the media.
“We played against a number of very strong sides and we defeated them, we went all the way to the final. It was excellent so far, but we didn't take our chances.
“We were far below our usual level, among what we are capable of. We have to take a good look at this version, see what we can improve for next season.
“But we also really enjoyed an incredible season, with a first Champions League triumph and more trophies in France, but we really wanted to win this competition.
“The first of his kind, played once every four years. We didn't do it, but it takes nothing away from the rest of our campaign.”
PSG's semi-final victory over Real Madrid marked their 48th season and surpasses their previous best of 47 victories during the 2015-16 campaign.
Thinking about their time in the United States, Marquinhos took a moment to praise fans and emphasize the positive points from the team of the team.
He continued: “Thanks to our supporters who have been right behind us all season, they are the best fans, at home and away, even here in the US we saw our fans everywhere.
“That is the best thing we have experienced this season, the joy and love of our fans during the season. This year we had more and more fans who loved our playing style, the wish we showed on the field and the passion of our supporters outside the field.
“We have received a lot of respect and admiration this season and that is great. I will remember my entire life this season. Unfortunately we have not won (against Chelsea), but it was an unforgettable season.”
