Arsenal consider transfer for £20m Premier League striker as defender attracts interest

Arsenal lost ground in the Premier League title race after being held to a draw by Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners had been in excellent form since the international break but were left frustrated at Craven Cottage as the home side drew 1-1. The result, combined with Chelsea's 4-3 win over Tottenham, saw Mikel Arteta's side drop to third in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool.

Arteta was left to rue the small margins that characterize top-flight matches after Bukayo Saka's late header was cleared by VAR for offside against Gabriel Martinelli in the build-up to the match. Arsenal brought Gabriel Jesus off the substitutes' bench as they chased a late winner but may have the firepower to get over the line.

Could they be tempted to make a move for that missing player in the January transfer window? Let Mirror Football guide you through the latest transfer news and gossip.

Everton are willing to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin for £20million in the upcoming transfer window – and Arsenal could be one of the candidates. The Sun reports that Calvert-Lewin is preparing to leave Everton with his contract set to expire in June, but could leave earlier if an offer comes in in January.

It is not without reason that the club wants to lose the striker on a free transfer and will look for interested parties in January. Arsenal are reportedly interested, along with West Ham, Newcastle and AC Milan, despite scoring just twice in 14 games this season.

It seems unlikely that the Gunners would spend the money on a striker who will be available for free on July 1. He will be able to speak to foreign clubs about a free transfer in the new year.

William Saliba scored Arsenal's only goal at Fulham, converting Kai Havertz's knockdown from close range, and he won't be leaving the club anytime soon.

Saliba told Mirror Football: “Yes of course, I feel at home. I signed for the club five years ago, but it's only my third season and I'm enjoying everything: the players, the staff and the fans. I feel so at home. Of course, why not?”

The 23-year-old Frenchman has developed into Arsenal's centre-back alongside Gabriel Magalhaes and is very happy where he is despite Real Madrid's rumored interest.

Saliba was partnered by Jakub Kiwior on Sunday, while Gabriel was unavailable due to an injury. The Poland international stepped into the void, but was at fault for Raul Jimenez's goal at Craven Cottage.

His involvement came at a good time as Kiwior became frustrated with the lack of playing time this season. The start was only his second in the Premier League this season, following the 2-0 win over Manchester United in midweek.

Mirror Football understands that Italian giants Napoli, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus are among the clubs interested in Kiwior. Arsenal rejected interest in the summer, with Bologna and Villarreal asking to loan him out, and are also unlikely to let him leave in January. His future will be reassessed in the summer.
