Liverpool to rival Newcastle for Hugo Ekitike after Isak stance reiterated

Liverpool is expected to be Newcastle for Hugo Ekitike after he has been told that Alexander Isak is not for sale in this window.

The Premier League champions have always been interested in Isak, but it is understood that Newcastle is not interested in selling their striker and appreciating him at least £ 150 million.

Liverpool will focus their attention on Eintracht Frankfurt's Ekitike, who was the subject of a rejected club record offer from Newcastle in the last 24 hours.

The Reds have put on the market throughout the summer for possible center -forward options, determining availability and price -but they have not made an offer for Isak.

Sources about MerseSide state that no formal contact has been made between the clubs, unlike reports elsewhere.

Arsenal is another club that is interested in Isak this summer, but they are now closing a deal for Sportor's Viktor Gyokeres.

This summer, Ekitike is one of the other top strikers on the market, together with Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko and much more.

Newcastle's £ 70 million bid for Ekitike has already been rejected

Sky Sports News already reported that Frankfurt rejected Newcastle's formal bid this morning – as reported by Sky Germany for the first time.

Frankfurt believes that there are other clubs who have indicated that they are willing to pay more for the striker, who they appreciate for £ 85 million.

Newcastle held conversations on Monday with the representatives of Ekitike in Austria, because they want to sign the striker they have monitored for a number of years.

Newcastle tried and managed to sign in Ekitike in 2022, but he chose PSG instead. Frankfurt then only paid PSG £ 14 million for the 23-year-old last summer.

ISAK is the current signing of Newcastle, after he was closed to Real Sociedad in August 2022 at a £ 63 million deal.

Ekitike scored 22 goals in 48 games in all matches last season for Frankfurt when he helped them to be eligible for the Champions League.

He was a Manchester United -White this summer after the club had explored the circumstances of a deal, while Chelsea was also interested together with Liverpool.

Newcastle has spent £ 55 million on a large signing of the summer so far after the arrival of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

Ekitike ready for the next step after breakthrough of Bundesliga

Sky Sports' Adam Bate:

When Hugo Ekitike was still a teenager at Stade Reims, the coaching staff prepared a development plan for him. They analyzed the performance of Kylian Mbappe and then chose two more players from that Ekitike could realistically replicate.

“These were players with similar profiles of teams that were better than our team, but not at the distance Paris Saint-Germain were ours,” Oscar Garcia, the then head coach of Reims, told Sky Sports. “We challenged him to reach the level of the other two strikers.”

At first glance, that was a completely reasonable goal in the short term. Prior to his last season at Reims, Ekitike had not even scored a goal in the top layer of France. He had spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at the Danish club Vejle Boldklub.

He returned to Reims as the fourth choice, but soon forced Oscar to review. Shortly thereafter were the two strikers whose level he was encouraged to hit no longer in his sights. “Within a few months he wanted to reach the same level as Mbappe.”

It is a story that offers a look at the mindset of the Eintracht Frankfurt, which has long been associated with a switch to the Premier League.

“He was always a talented player, but some coaches didn't like him because of his profile and sometimes because of his character,” Oscar admits. “They thought he was a bit arrogant. He always wanted to be compared to the best.”
