UFC champion gives brutally honest opinion on the BMF title ahead of UFC 318 clash

Since the BMF title has been introduced in the UFC, it has received both praise and criticism from fans and stars from the sport.

This next Saturday at the UFC 318 Main Event, the BMF title will only be on the line in the fourth time in the UFC history when Max Holloway takes on Dustin Poirier.

Holloway won the controversial belt with one of the most incredible knockouts in the UFC history when he was Justin Gaethje on UFC 300 last year.

With a victory over 'The Diamond', Holloway is the first hunter to successfully defend the belt, because both Justin Gaethje and Jorge Masvidal have not defended it.

Tom Aspinall gives a brutal honest opinion about the BMF title

Since the BMF title was introduced in the UFC in 2019, it has received his criticism from the MMA fan base due to the fact that it is not really considered a 'real' title.

However, it is not only the fans who are critical of the title, because the current UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has shared his brutal honest thoughts about the belt.

“Do you want my honest opinion (about the title)? I mean, it's a title, but it's not a world championship, so what are we doing?” Aspinall started to explain to UFC on TNT.

“These guys don't need a title, they are two legends of the sport, look at the name value, even look at the rankings, look at the amount of fights they have, look at the shorts they wear, we don't really need a title at stake, to be honest,” Aspinall continued.

Despite his incredible career in the UFC, Poirier has never been an undisputed champion and that is one of the reasons why he is now retiring, knowing that the chance of that is over.

Max Holloway removed from rankings for UFC 318

'Blessed', on the other hand, had an incredible career in featherweight, before he made his permanent switch to lightweight, and is one of the largest in the history of the division.

And for his UFC 318 BMF title defense at Lightweight, Holloway was still ranked number one in the 145LB division that he claimed was 'ridiculous'.

However, only a few days before his collision against Poirier in Louisiana, Holloway was removed from the rankings of featherweight after his pre-fighting request.
