‘Call it a day’… Fans react to UFC legends with combined age of 97 being booked for rematch 27 years on from iconic KO

Fans are not very enthusiastic about seeing two icons for the second time in their legendary career.

MMA fans have made some of the biggest stars in sport in recent years the switch to boxing.

Recently, people from Molly McCann have changed career paths, while Holly Holm successfully returned to the ring after saying goodbye to ways with the UFC.

One of the most striking examples is Nate Diaz, who is currently focusing on big names in both sports, while he is looking for his next career step, after he last participated in a boxing match with his former UFC rival, Jorge Masvidal.

Diaz and Masvidal, however, are not the only former opponents who have shared the Octagon and the Ring, with two big names who want to do the same in the coming months.

STACKS FIGHT NIGHT BOOKS VOROR BELFORT VS WANDERLEI SILVA in a boxing brake match for September 27

Last year, SPLATS brought Fight Night former UFC -Rivalen Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen together for a boxing match for exhibition that served as a final chapter in their iconic feud.

The promotion seems to replicate this formula with their next event that takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil on 27 September.

MMA Fighting confirmed that former UFC opponents Vorror Belfort and Wanderlei Silva have agreed to each other in a boxing match now that both men are in the UFC Hall of Fame.

The Brazilian icons met each other earlier during the first event of the UFC in Brazil in October 1998, where Belfort produced one of his career height points by becoming the first person to beat Silva and ended the fight in just 44 seconds.

Neither of the man participated in several years, with Silva recently received a worried response from the fans when he was initially announced for the GFL concept, after he had not fought since 2018.

Belfort, on the other hand, achieved two boxing victories on Evander Holyfield and Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza since his last UFC fight also took place in 2018.

It used to be expected that they would compete in a rematch during their time in the UFC after they were rival coaches at 'The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil'.

Fans would rather Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort walked away from the competition at this stage in their career

While a boxing brake match between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen may have had some novelty around it, fans have their opinion about Wanderlei Silva and the boxing match of Vitor Belfort fairly clearly in the answers to MMA Fighting's post.

Both Belfort and Silva have achieved incredible things in their career, but it does not seem that there is much interest in this matchup, even if it will certainly let people talk, especially in Brazil.

“Wanderlei is a top 10 favorite hunter ever for me, but he has to call it a day forever.”

“Why do they have enough money. Why keep damaging your brain. What for? '

“Legends can't wait to see that one of them is being eliminated !!!”

'27 years later and they finally rematch, but in boxing and wayyyy beyond their prime. '

'UNCS just can't hang it. Almost 50 is still throwing down. '

'Enough old guys fighting BS. The person who pays for this is a fool. '
