Alexander Volkanovski snubs Conor McGregor trilogy when picking Dustin Poirier win that ‘stands out’ the most

A recent moment in the long -term career of UFC 318 star Dustin Poirier stands out in the spirit of champion Vederweight Alexander Volkanovski.

The MMA community looks back on Poirier's career as the favorite lightweight veteran equipment to make his last walk to the Octagon close to home in Louisiana this Saturday evening.

After he fell short in his third attempt in the title of 155 pounds last year, Poirier will retire on UFC 318 when he wants to make a BMF-Kurdonden enemy Max Holloway his last action as an active hunter.

Such a performance would be in addition to many memorable moments in an MMA official period that includes almost two decades. But what is the most striking?

Alexander Volkanovski explains to choose Benoit Saint-Denis Ko if Dustin Poirier wins that 'stands out'

During a recent performance at the main event of FOX Sports, Volkanovski viewed the last farewell to Poirier and think about some important moments in his UFC career.

'Alexander the Great' was asked if a certain Poirier victory stands out above the rest, with a list presented with remarkable results such as Poirier's knockout against Conor McGregor, Fight of the Year War with Dan Hooker and Madison Square Garden Submission versus Michael Chandler.

But Volkanovski eventually opted for a triumph that was not on the list-Poirier's brutal knockout by Benoit Saint-Denis on UFC 299 last year, resulting in a surprise third shot at the undisputed lightweight crown.

“This is a bit tricky because he has had so many larger fights, such as (against) your Conor McGregors,” said Volkanovski. “But one thing that strikes me is Benoit Saint-Denis.

“I think that is a fight that actually stands out, just because it came from a bad loss where people would have thought:” Ah, he is ready. ” (Counter) a hot prospect, lots of hype for this guy.

“And just comes out and just – also on wild fashion, as Dustin Poirier always does, gets the victory,” Volkanovski added. “That just means a lot because I have been situations in them. I just know how big that is for your career.

“For him to bounce back and also get a title fight, incredible fight that was, and now also ends with the BMF fight, I just think that the bounce back is so far in his career and still to be at the top just impressive. That distinguishes me.”

Dustin Poirier could get the chance at a similar peak at UFC 318

If Holloway repeats his renowned point on the ground on UFC 318, Poirier could have openings to land a similar Kill shot to close his career in New Orleans.

'Blessed' came out of that action earlier, when Holloway just slept on UFC 300 in a brutal way. But since then fell to the first KO of his career against Ilia Topuria, many have suggested that the Hawaiianian will be more vulnerable.

It is clear that Holloway will not drop off.

“Last dance. Last 10 seconds. Wise to the ground,” Holloway told MMA Junkie. “He (Poirier) can even do it. I am 100 percent sure he will bring it.

“I am hearing those words. If it is a war he wants, it is a war that he is going to get. It will be a bunch of knuckles in it. I would not want it in any other way, especially with the BMF title on the line.”
