Calvin Kattar hits back at growing calls to retire following fifth consecutive loss at UFC Nashville

UFC fans called on Calvin Kattar to hang the gloves after his fifth consecutive defeat against Steve Garcia.

Once praised by Joe Rogan as a potential future world champion, Calvin Kattar dropped to his fifth straight defeat last Saturday against the rising Steve Garcia in UFC Nashville. Kattar, 37, had difficulty tackling Garcia's high activity during their three-round fight on the way to a unanimous decision.

The former rival of Max Holloway is in a peculiar place in his UFC career in the midst of his constant losing series. Kattar has not gained a victory since he defeated Giga Chikadze in January 2022.

In the midst of his recent struggles, many UFC fans went to social media to beg Kattar to end his fighting career after UFC Nashville.

Calvin Kattar says he broke his foot, just a few minutes in the defeat of UFC Nashville

Kattar did not look the same in the Octagon since a crooked defeat against Holloway in January 2021. He perhaps took the most punishment that every hunter in UFC history has against Holloway, while Holloway established different UFC records in their fight.

After a few days of reflection, Kattar answered some of his greatest critics after his latest UFC opposition.

In a recent Instagram post, Kattar broke his silence on social media after his fifth loss of the Trek at UFC Nashville.

“Thankful for my family, team and those who came out or tuned to the fight. Much pushed by just to get to the fight and even more when it started,” said Kattar.

“I broke my foot in two places in the first round, but content that I was able to get to the end, although the shortage was short. Congratulations my opponent on top 15, well earned.

“Time for some recovery.”

At the moment it is uncertain when Kattar returns to the Octagon. Before UFC Nashville, Kattar lost to Youssef Zalal on UFC Vegas 102 and was accused of cheating by his opponent.

Kattar defeated the will of Shane Burgos, Ricardo Lamas and Jeremy Stephens earlier in his UFC career before his current losing streak.

Stephen Thompson called for the assessment of 'training' after controversial loss at UFC Nashville

Kattar's colleague UFC Nashville-standing, Stephen Thompson, had some harsh criticism for the judges after his controversial loss for Gabriel Bonfim in the co-headliner. Many analysts and colleagues felt that Thompson did enough to win the victory on Bonfim, but the former title Challenger ran away with a split decision loss.

Thompson argued that there would be more transparency and 'education' with the current MMA assessment system in the UFC. The UFC has no authority to change how fighting is officially/assessed, and committees are charged with facilitating important overhaul.

Thompson is one of the many top names to criticize MMA judges. UFC Heavyweight Competent Alexander Volkov called for a UFC 310 judge to 'be fired' after a doubtful loss of decision for Ciryl Gane.
