Nate Diaz reignites Dustin Poirier feud by mocking rival days out from his UFC 318 retirement fight

Fight -fans took over this week to celebrate Dustin Poirier's career prior to his last fight.

Poirier has had an emotional path to UFC 318, where 'The Diamond' will board the Octagon for a final dance.

Although the UFC has helped Poirier to grant his dream pension scenario by being confronted against Max Holloway in Louisiana on July 19, a former rival clearly does not have the same worship for him.

During his remarkable run, the 36-year-old confronted with some of the biggest names in the sport after he shared the cage with people like Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

However, there is a blockbuster -matchup that did not happen in one way or another, so that unfinished things are left between the two opponents.

Nate Diaz places over his canceled UFC 230 fight with Dustin Poirier during the UFC 318 Fight Week

In 2018, Dustin Poirier was in Nate Diaz on UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden.

The road to the fight was dramatic, with conversations about the matchup that may serve as the most important event or take place in a new weight class, where both men insist on a belt of 165 pounds.

At the time, the BMF belt was not made, although this would have been very appropriate, with Diaz Vecht the next year for the inaugural title.

The constant conversation around this fight, which was not helped by Diaz who walked out of the press conference, ended when Poirier withdrew from UFC 230 due to a hip injury a few weeks from 3 November.

'The Diamond' later explained that he would have fought due to the injury if he still met Diaz on this date, but after being told that this would not happen, he called not to have another opponent at this event and to take some free time.

Despite the side of Poirier of the story, it is clear that his former rival does not believe that this is the reason why the long -awaited match did not take place.

In a recent message on social media, Diaz shared an old video from Poirier who sent him a message through his hospital bed, where he called him a “fake a – gangster”.

The former UFC star apparently chose to bring this back, while everyone thinks about the inheritance that 'The Diamond' leaves behind and tags the promotion in the post.

Nate Diaz would have been another strong option for Dustin Poirier's pension fight

Before the main event of UFC 318 was confirmed, Dustin Poirier made it clear that he only wanted to fight a colleague legend of the sport for his pension fight.

Although he may not have the same level of respect for Nate Diaz that he has for Max Holloway, closing of this chapter would finally have been another great way for 'The Diamond' to turn out.

In the end it remains the only huge fight that fans wanted to see him in the Octagon, outside a matchup with Tony Ferguson when both men were at the top.

Given everything that happened behind the scenes prior to the UFC 230, it certainly seems that his rematch with Holloway is much easier to put together.
