UFC 318 Headliner Max Holloway does not think that Ilia Topuria's recent run knockouts is just as impressive as many believe it is.
Topuria completed his climb to two -division Glory at the end of last month when he came to the head of the UFC Vechtweek in Las Vegas. After he said goodbye to his reign as a featherweight King, Topuria Charles Oliveira outdoors UFC 317 to collect the empty lightweight crown.
In view of the fact that the newest triumph of the Spaniard comparable brutal victories followed on Alexander Volkanovski and Holloway, many 'El Matador' think the largest three-Vechtrun in UFC history.
But despite the fact that it is part of there because of the successful defense of Topuria on UFC 308 last October, 'blessed' sees things differently.
Renato Moicano pushes back on Max Holloway who trivializes Ilia Topurias Run
During promotional work for Holloway's UFC 318 Main Event against Dustin Poirier, the current BMF champion tried to trivialize the violent line of Topuria.
The Hawaiiaan pointed out the Ko van Volkanovski against Islam Makhachev, his tough cutbacks back to the featherweight, and the inconsistent form of Oliveira to recruit doubts about the newly crowned camp of the champion.
Another of the top names of the 155-pound division believes that Holloway was wrong to do this.
“If people no longer won the belt, I would agree,” Micano said at his show Me The Money Podcast. “At the same time he is now champion. So I don't agree (with Holloway).
“Max, Charles and Volkanovski. That is an impressive CV,” said Micano.
Max Holloway focuses on a second shot at Ilia Topuria in a different weight class
After he pointed to his heavy return to 145 pounds, because one of the contributing factors in Topuria became the first man to clean him, Holloway could get the chance to prove himself in line.
With both 'blessed' and 'El Matador' apparently no plans to return to the featherweight division, they are now back in the same weight class.
Just like before, Holloway hunts a shot in Topuria, and on July 19 at UFC 318 he could be considerably closer to UFC 318 by spoiling the pension party of the no. 6 Poirier in New Orleans.
On the other hand, a third loss for a man who competes for the last time would be an important blow to the Hawaiian's ambitions to add a new piece of UFC gold to his trophy cabinet.
