Justin Gaethje provides title fight update after threatening retirement… ‘Someone has to fight him this year’

Former UFC -interim -light weight champion Justin Gaethje remains adamant with regard to his position on a lightweight title fight against Ilia Topuria.

On UFC 317 on June 29, Ilia Topuria became the new lightweight champion when he eliminated Charles Oliveira in the first round and joined a list of elite names to become a champion in two weight classes.

Immediately after the fight, the controversy followed when Topuria was confronted with his potential opponent when Paddy Pimblett stormed the cage for a spontaneous face.

Nevertheless, after the event, UFC boss Dana White explained his frustration about the situation and claimed that Pimblett should not have been called in the cage, because that is 'not the fight'.

And with that the UFC veteran has made an extremely daring claim that if he will not get a title shot in his next fight, he will officially retire from the sport.

'El Matador' played the highlight 'as a potential next opponent and claims that he is not interested in fighting him, which does not predict well for Gaethje.

Not only that, but Dana White also begged that Gaethje should retire if he is already considering doing this.

Despite the fact that, prior to UFC 318 this Saturday, Gaethje went on stage at the ceremonial weightings to answer some questions from the media and some fans.

After being asked what the next step is for him, Gaethje said: “I am or Arman (Tsarukyan), I believe that someone should fight this year (Topuria) and I think I am in a better place than Arman, so someone has to fight him.
