Rennes is a double Marseille for left-back Quentin Merlin (23) and midfielder Valentin Rongier (30) compiled, according to a report by Le Parisien. Les Rouge et Noir is reportedly making progress in the race to sign the French U23 International Left-Back after opening conversations with Marseille's sports director Medhi Benatia.
Rennes is looking for a left back after AFC Bournemouth Adrien Truffert had signed in a deal of € 17 million when the Cherries identified France of France International in Belgium as the ideal fit to replace Milos Kerkez, who became a member of Premier League League FC FC. Merlin is currently connected to Les Phocéens during a contract that expires in 2028. Last season he played 29 times in front of Roberto de Zerbi.
In the meantime, Rennes is also interested in the second player of Marseille, signed at Formative Club Nantes, the arch rivals of the Bretons: Valentin Rongier. The 30-year-old will start his last contract year after rejecting a contract renewal proposal from Les Phocéens. Given his contractual situation and his Ligue 1 experience, see Rennes Rongier as a market chance. But Rennes is said to be not only in the race to sign Rongier. Marseille is expected to say goodbye to the versatile midfielder if their exit conditions are met.
