Dustin Poirier looks back on his MMA career, loving after putting down the gloves in the Octagon on UFC 318.
Poirier had granted his wish for a farewell fight in his home state Louisiana, because the favorite of the fan called time on his career with a last Octagon outing in the Smoothie King Center of New Orleans.
In his retirement, Poirier was defeated by Max Holloway on UFC 318, because the couple their trilogy 13 years after 'The Diamond' was submitted 'Blessed' concluded when they first shared the cage.
The former interim light weight champion spent a large part of the days prior to the Pay-Per View of July 19, looking back on his 18-year-old MMA official period. And despite one remarkable failure, Poirier has no regrets.

During a fighting week interview with Chisanga Malata, Poirier looked ahead to his eventually failed attempt to close his career on a winning note and to think about everything he has achieved.
Although the absence of an undisputed UFC championship remains the only blemish on a stellar CV, 'the diamond' insisted that the outcome does not mean that he left the sport and wished he had done something else.
“No,” Poirier said when he was asked if he is sorry.
“Of course, afterwards, when I look back on certain fights, certain sequences that took place in fighting, I wish I would have done this or defended this differently.
“But as far as my career in total, every fight I gave everything,” Poirier continued. “Every fight week, I sustained to leave it all there. I took what I had at that time to be the best I could be and puts the right foot forward.
“So I don't regret my preparation or my approach to fighting. I did everything to be the best every time the bell rang.”

The reaction of Nate Diaz to the pension fight of Dustin Poirier is just about the only social media post that does not focus on giving 'the diamond' are flowers after UFC 318.
A large number of fellow hunters, fans and analysts have sent congratulatory reports to the Louisianan, including his penultimate opponent.
Islam Makhachev submitted Poirier to UFC 302 last year and has since shown respect for the fan-favorite lightweight veteran. With that in mind it was not surprising to see the Dagestani share positive words for his ex-rival.
“Congratulations, Dustin,” wrote Makhachev on X. “You are really one of the biggest ever to enter the cage. It was an honor and a privilege to share it with you.”
