Mac Allister hopes Liverpool trio will stay as contract talks continue

Alexis Mac Allister is hopeful Liverpool can keep Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah at Anfield after the club made contract offers to the trio.

Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah are all set to enter the final six months of their Liverpool contracts, with Salah's future in particular being a talking point in recent weeks.

The Egyptian, who has already scored 21 Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season (13 goals, eight assists), recently suggested he was “more out than in” in comments that drew criticism from Reds legend Jamie Carragher.

Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and Van Dijk has reportedly rejected Liverpool's opening contract offer.

However, Sky Sports reported on Monday that “positive” talks had taken place with all three players, and midfielder Mac Allister is desperate for them to agree new terms.

“Hopefully Trent and Virgil can stay with us, along with Salah,” Mac Allister told Diario AS.

“Alexander-Arnold is crucial, as we saw against Manchester City when he came back from injury. Like Salah, he is in negotiations and hopefully he can continue in the team.”

Alexander-Arnold, with 25, is second only to Salah (26) when it comes to chances created among Liverpool players in the Premier League this season, although his defensive attributes have been criticized in the past.

However, Mac Allister appreciates his teammate's work both with and without the ball, adding: “His quality is enormous.

“I have always said that he was criticized for his defensive role, but I have no doubt that he can make a difference in both defense and attack.

“He is also strong and fast, which allows him to find the balance between attack and defense.”

Liverpool, who saw their planned trip to Merseyside rivals Everton postponed last weekend, visit Girona in the Champions League on Tuesday before hosting Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
