Liverpool is about to conquer the signing of Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike after he agreed a £ 79 million deal for the Frenchman – and his arrival would be a complete circle after Jamie Carragher had tipped him for a move to Anfield
Jamie Carragher's prediction that Liverpool could sign Hugo Ekitike instead of Alexander Isak seems to come out as the Reds close to a movement for the Frankfurt striker.
Liverpool has shown that they mean things in this transfer star after splashing nearly £ 200 million on signs so far – including £ 116.5 million for Bayer Leverkusen Playmaker Florian Wirtz – and is preparing to punish an enormous fee on Ekitike.
Slot has made it a priority to bring in a top quality center that can add competition for attacking places and the club has quickly closed a deal for the Frenchman in the middle of Newcastle's interest.
Liverpool is now about to conquer Ekitike's signature after they have agreed a package with Frankfurt worth around £ 69 million with another £ 10 million in possible add-ons. The player is now set to a medical at Anfield before they become their newest BIG-Note signing.
The Premier League champions had previously considered Newcastle striker Alexander Isak to be a target before he received his eye-watery asking price of a maximum of £ 150 million.
Liverpool -legend Carragher suggested earlier that Ekitike might be a better option for the club than Isak, because he was impressed by his display when he scored against Tottenham in the Europa League in April.
“There is the boy in Eintracht Frankfurt who scored against Tottenham in the week, and I'm not going to try to pronounce his name!” Said the expert on the Calls Soccer Podcast.
“Ekitike, that smakes for me as the type of player who would sign Liverpool. I think he is 22, and he is in a club that you think would probably be a sales club. He did very well there.
“He went to PSG as a very young boy after he had relieved the French league as a young child, and it didn't work for him. But he is still very young.
“He has large numbers this season, and it seems almost like the type of player who would sign Liverpool instead of perhaps going for an isak.”
In addition to Wirtz, Liverpool signed full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez from Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth respectively, while goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was signed on a free transfer.
Adding Ekitike to their collection of new recruits would be a serious declaration of intent after he had played attention in Europe last season by obtaining 22 goals in all competitions.
