Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim gets his way with Bryan Mbeumo signing before key deadline

Manchester United has finally received a deal over the line for Bryan Mbeumo and signs the Brentford striker for a five-year-old deal for transfer costs that could reach £ 71 million

It took them two months, but Manchester United has finally signed Bryan Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old attacker has signed a five-year contract, with the option of another year, worth £ 200,000 a week after long-term and increasingly bitter negotiations with Brentford. United has agreed to pay a first fee of £ 65 million plus another £ 6 million in add-ons for the Cameroon International.

He becomes the second major signing of the summer transfer window, after Matheus Cunha, and is something of a coup for United, who defeated the competition from Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea to land him.

The wages that United was willing to pay, undoubtedly played a role in their success, but the club knew they had to do something, given their lack of European football in the coming season.

There are still 42 days left in the transfer window, but United worked towards another, self -imposed, deadline. Like many of their rivals, United wanted to be done this summer to make their manager as much time as possible on the training field with them.

Cunha was packed extremely quickly, officially signed on June 12, after he announced the deal on 1 June. The £ 62.5 million capture of Wolves was a declaration of intent and the speed of the negotiations benefited him and Amorim.

The United Head Coach told director of Voetbal Jason Wilcox and the wider recruitment team that he wanted to do signing sessions on time to come on their tour for the season. United will fly to the United States on Tuesday to play in the Premier League Summer Series. That means that Mbeumo has only made the plane.

That ticking clock is ultimately the reason why United decided to meet Brentford's requirements for compensation above £ 70 million. After they have rejected two bids, they returned with a third last week, to end the weeks -long stalemate.

It means that Mbeumo will make its United debut when they play West Ham in New Jersey on July 27, for matches against Bournemouth and Everton in Chicago and Atlanta. United then plays Fiorentina at Old Trafford in their last pre-season match on August 9, before they start their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on 17 August.

“As soon as I knew there was a chance to become a member of Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to draw for the club of my dreams – the team whose shirt I was wearing grow up,” said Mbeumo.

“My mentality is to always be better than I yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach a different level here, to learn from Ruben Amorim and play together with players of World Class.

“Everyone told me about the area made here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a huge club, with an incredible stadium and great fans, we are all really determined to challenge the biggest trophies.”
