Atletico Madrid looked close to closing a deal for Jesus Areso last weekend, with a deal close after personal conditions had been agreed. His other primary freer, Athletic Club,, however, returned to their efforts to sign him.
Areso will be without a contract next season and it is public knowledge that he will not sign a new deal with El Sadar. Sports director Braulio Vazquez has confirmed that Osasuna made him three renewal offers last season, but they were all rejected. He also has a release clause of € 12 million, but has been linked to a move to both Atletico and Athletic for many months.
Despite a move to Atletico that seems anything but a foregone dealer, Diario De Navarra, via MD, says that Areso is now about to sign for athletics. Los Leones has increased their offer to € 10.5 million with variables on top of that, close to the asking price of Osasuna. Atletico had already agreed with Osasuna, and Los Rojiblancos are hopeful that Los Rojillo will honor that agreement. However, it is noted that if Areso prefers to accept the six -year -old deal from Athletic, Osasuna will not stand in the way of him.
Nevertheless, Diario says that the news that comes from Navarra has surprised some in Madrid, who have the confidence that Osasuna had agreed to sell Areso to Atletico, with whom there is also less rivalry.
