Edu working on transfer for Arsenal target he repeatedly failed to sign

Edu tries to sign Juventus -midfielder Douglas Luiz for Nottingham Forest, after he failed a few times with movements for the Brazilian when he was in Arsenal

Nottingham Forest leads the race to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus after he had rejected the movements for other Premier League parties. Juventus only signed Luiz from Aston Villa last summer, but they are now desperate to discharge the Brazilian midfielder.

The Italian giants cough £ 42.35 million to sign Luiz van Villa before handing him a five -year contract. Villa only separated the company with the 27-year-old to meet profit and sustainability rules after he had enjoyed an excellent season 2023/24.

Luiz is now trying to transfer a switch to the Premier League after a miserable and injury-affected first campaign in Turin. Last season he only started three Series A matches for Juve, with 16 replacement performances that only gave him up to 518 minutes in the competition.

Juve is now trying to get rid of him and striker Dusan Vlahovic to make room for newcomers, including Manchester United wing player Jadon Sancho. And it seems that Forest Global Head of Football Edu could keep the key to the potential deal.

Edu surprisingly announced his decision to go through Arsenal in November, after working for five years at the Gunners alongside Mikel Arteta. He was responsible for the signing sessions of players such as Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice – but a player he was unable to land was Luiz.

Gazzetta Dello Sport now says that Edu again leads the push to sign Luiz, this time for Forest. Luiz has rejected Fulham and Leeds and now his agent, Kia Joorabchian, is flying to London to speak with interested parties.

Tuttosport now reports that Everton is in the mix with Forest, while West Ham and Manchester United have previously investigated a deal for him. Because Luiz is left for four years on his deal with Juventus, a straight transfer seems unlikely.

But the old lady is said to be happy to accept a first loan with the obligation to buy. Last week West Ham would have offered a loan agreement of € 10 million (£ 8.67 million) with an option to buy for around € 30 million (£ 26 million). That was rejected because Juve wants an obligation to buy, instead of an option.

Luiz is not in the plans of Igor Tudor for the 2025/26 season after missing 20 games last season due to injury while he was underwhelming when he played. Edu does not seem to worry, because he continues to chase the midfielder.

Edu and Arteta were convinced that Luiz could become an important player in North Londs if they could poach him from Villa. They tried more than once to take him away from Unai Emery, but were not successful because he spent five seasons with the Birmingham Club.

It seems that this time he has a better chance, with Forest – unlike Everton of United – to offer him European football next season.
