His performances in the United States have led him to expect that he will remain in the first team team of Real Madrid for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, although head coach Xabi Alonso does not seem to have made a definitive decision. However, the club has not prevented that from making movements.
According to Diario AS, Real Madrid is in conversation with the agent of Gonzalo about a new contract for the 21-year-old striker, who will prioritize staying in the Santiago Bernabeu this summer in the midst of Chelsea and other Premier League clubs.
Gonzalo has been excellent in his limited time with the Real Madrid First Team, so it would be no surprise to see him in Alonso's team for the coming season – especially given that Endrick Felipe, his direct in the battle for Kylian Mbappe's Backup, is expected to come out of operation until October.
Gonzalo has earned more than his place in the Real Madrid team, but it is not confirmed for now. Alonso is expected to make his final decision when the first team returns before the start of their shortened pre-season schedule, which will start next week.
