The potential Barcelona debut of Marcus Rashford has been canceled.
The loan transfer of the Manchester United Academy Academy on the Laliga Giants was confirmed on Wednesday evening.
The 27-year-old is expected to have left for Asia in the coming days after their pre-season tour with Hansi Flick's team.
Their first match would take place this Sunday in Japan against Vissel Kobe.
However, the club has now revealed a statement that they have canceled their journey there because of “serious contractual infringements” by organizers.
A statement that was released shortly after Rashford's announcement said: “Barcelona announces that it is mandatory to suspend his participation in the game for next Sunday in Japan due to serious contractual infringements on behalf of the promoter.
“Nevertheless, the club will consider adjusting the leg of the summer tour in Zuid -Korea, where two games are planned against FC Seoul (July 31) and Daegu FC (August 4), if certain conditions are met by the promoter.
“If these conditions are met, the club will travel to South Korea in the coming days.
“FC Barcelona regrets this incident and the impact it will have on the many, many Barça fans in Japan.”
Although the move means that fans hope to get a first look at Rashford in Barca colors on the field, it will have to wait another four days, it will give the attacker more time to gele with his teammates on the training field.
Rashford – who will wear the NO14 shirt during his loan saying – said he was “very excited” to become a member of the club, and added that it felt “as home”.
He also emphasized the hunger of the team and head coach Hansi Flick to win titles, while also reserving special praise for Wonderkid Lamine Yamal.
The International of England told reporters who were present during a press conference that streamed live on the YouTube channel of Barcelona: “He is (Yamal) a special talent.
“For me he was one of the best players in the world last season, if not the best. It is exciting.
“Everyone in sport wants to play with the best, and there is a lot of talent in this team.
“I have seen that in recent days. I am happy and like to be with them. Maybe I can help them, and they can help me. It will be exciting.”
Rashford's first competitive match for Barcelona will hit Mallorca on August 16 in La Liga.
Taking Rashford on a first temporary basis – with an option of £ 26 million – helps Barca while they continue to navigate in a difficult financial situation, whereby the player also likes to secure a place in the English team for the 2026 world cup.
