Sky Sports starts a new five-year partnership with the WSL, which shows almost 90 percent of all Super League matches for women from the 2025/26 season.
Reigning champion Chelsea wants to secure a record -extending seventh straight WSL title -but they will probably get a big challenge of the European champions Arsenal, who have made a summer statement by signing Liverpool's Olivia Smith as the first £ 1 million player in women's football.
The two Manchester sides City and United also hope to compete, with City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs that start new eras with new managers.
There is also a new face in the WSL in the form of London City Lionesses, which became the first independent club that was promoted to the women's football top.
But with new relegation rules prior to a competition from the competition to 14 teams, this WSL season promises to be different from all others.
The Key Dates for 2025/26
July 27: UEFA Women's Championship final
September 6: Opening weekend of the WSL season
December 22-Januari 4: WSL Winter break
January 10: WSL will resume after the winter break
May 17: Last weekend of the WSL season
What are the new relegation rules?
The FA has given their approval to the Ladies Super League that extends to 14 teams from the 2026/27 season – which has an impact on how many teams have been banned this season.
In the current competition format, one team relegates from the top layer of women's football, but it will now turn into two teams that have been relegated and promoted every season.
To reach 14 teams for the 2026/27 campaign, the top two teams in the second layer – the Women's Super League 2 – will be automatically promoted to the WSL.
The last 14th place is determined by a relegation play-off at the end of the season between the 12th installed team in the WSL and the third placed team in the Women's Super League 2.
From the 2026/27 season, the last placed 14th team in the competition will be automatically relegated, with the 13th placed team confronted with a play-off with the WSL 2 Second.
Sky Sports remains the home base of the WSL
From the 2025/26 season, most ladies will kick off Super League matches on Sunday at noon – subject to stadium availability – so that fans have a normal and accessible viewing window.
Sky Sports will broadcast matches at the same time via channels, including Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports+ and the Sky Sports app, which offer a larger choice and visibility.
Under a new deal of five years, Sky remains the home base of the WSL, with almost 90 percent of all competitions, including 78 excluding – more than three times more than before.
