Arsenal has reached a full agreement with Sporting CP for the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres.
The Premier League side pays an initial € 63.5 million (£ 54.8 million; $ 74.2 million) plus € 10 million in add-ons.
Gyokeres has been given permission to travel by exercising and is expected to undergo his Arsenal Medical on Saturday.
The 27-year-old takes the NO 14-shirt in Arsenal, the song made iconic by the recorder Thierry Henry of the club.
The athletics reported on July 22 that the clubs had in principle agreed a deal, but problems remained about the nature of the potential add-ons. Those worries are now smoothed out.
Gyokees was only aimed at the member of Arsenal and, despite the late interest from elsewhere, he was not considering coming to another club. The Swede agent also abandoned his committee to help the switch, while signing a five -year contract.
Gyokeres has been one of Europe's most sought after strikers this summer after scoring 54 goals in 52 games for sport last season and was identified as the preferred center-forward target of Arsenal.
Arsenal was without a recognized No. 9 for a large part of 2024-25 after injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, because they finished second in the Premier League for a third consecutive campaign, ten points behind Champions Liverpool with 17 less scored goals.
After leaving Brighton & Hove Albion for about £ 1 million to Coventry City in 2021, Gyokeres came out as a key figure for the championship side before his £ 17 million in 2023 went to Sporting to Sporting. He registered 97 goals and 28 assists for the Portuguese club and helped them to consecute competition -titles and the Taca de Portugal.
Arsenal has been active in their first summer transfer window led by the new sports director Andrea Berta.
Midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard have been accompanied by Real Sociedad and Brentford respectively, while goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and winger Noni Madueke arrived from Chelsea and defender Crithian Mosquera from Valencia.
Gyokees made his Sweden debut at the age of 20 and played 26 games at international level and scored 15 goals.
The weight of an inheritance
Analysis of Arsenal -correspondent James McNicholas
It is a sign of considerable confidence that Gyokees is willing to accept the number 14 shirt. At Arsenal that number has a special meaning – it was naturally worn by Henry, the biggest goal scorer in the history of Arsenal. Henry scored a record 228 goals in 377 matches and surpassed the previous top goalscorer of the club, Ian Wright.
Theo Walcott-Die More than 100 Arsenal goals scored Henry's shirt, and it was also worn by Premier League Golden Boot winner and former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, it is Henry's legacy that weighs the most on the shirt. With the Gyokeres shirt that is currently being held by Gabriel Jesus, he might have gone for the vacant number 10. Instead, he opted for 14 – a clear nod to Henry and Arsenal Goalscoring herd.
'Gyokes offers much more than goals'
Analysis by data writer Thom Harris
There is a fairly clear attraction on Gyokees when he browses through the numbers; His 68 league goals since he was at Sporting Sporting two summers ago, is more than double from any other player in Portugal at the time, a brutal finisher, who can generate Freakish Power on either side.
But there is more to the Swede than just lasered shots and poaching in the Penalty-Gyokees is a wonderful runner, directly, explosive and with the physical capacity to repeat those movements with high intensity.
As we can see by his skillcorner run profile below, compare his off-ball work with strikers in Europe's top seven competitions, he often in the backlog in the backlog or pulls wide to make the channels walk, happy to take a defender wide before he flows in and removes his shot.
The Premier League is of course a different proposition, and although Gyokees clearly has the physical possibilities to fight it out with the strongest center backs, he may not be offered that much space to attack for a side such as arsenal, often pass-heavy and patient in their structure. He is also not productive in the air, without a single goal in League Football last season.
But the Swede is a handful, a guaranteed goal scorer, a ruthless runner and a ruthless No. 9 that can turn half opportunities into goals. If Premier League teams thought they had discovered the Arsenal of Arteta, this signing would add a new dimension.
