Former Manchester City -defender Benjamin Mendy has been released by playing the Swiss club FC Zurich after just eight games and making his bosses angry.
Mendy, 31, came to Zurich in February and agreed to a contract to walk until the summer of 2026 after his short enchantment with the French side Lorient.
But he made fewer than 10 performances during his five -month stay and saw his deal tore through mutual permission after his behavior was criticized.
A statement released on the club website was: 'FC Zurich announces that the contract with the French defender Benjamin Mendy has ended by mutual permission. He leaves the city club with immediate effect.
“FCZ wishes Benjamin Mendy the very best for his private and sporting future.”
According to Mundo Deportivo, Mendy's questionable off-field antics in the ax that was brought down. It has indeed been claimed that he made the hierarchy of Zurich angry after parties only a few hours after a 4-0 defeat by Rivals Basel in April.
The incident led manager Ricardo Moniz to openly focus on Mendy in the press.
“Mendy did not perform as expected of a player of his caliber,” said Moniz. 'His physical condition is not what we expect from a player in this competition.
“After a 4–0 defeat you can't afford to do that to the supporters.”
The president of Zurich Ancillo Canepa was not impressed by the former French international in the same way and said: “It is certainly not what we expected. He was not at all mentally and physically at all, he played very badly, gave goals and was injured.
“All in all it wasn't a happy story.”
Mendy's move came to Switzerland after he was suspended by the city in August 2021 after he was accused of several counts of rape and one alleged sexual attack.
He was released from six counts of rape and one of sexual abuse, and then released from a further count of rape and one attempted rape in a new process in July 2023.
Mendy then successfully took the city to an employment tribunal about unpaid wages with a judge who was a statement on the 'majority of his unpaid salary' of the club.
The veteran then concluded a deal with Lorient but only played 15 games.
He made 75 performances during his six-year enchantment in the Etihad and won three Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
Mendy, who came to City in July 2017 in a £ 52 million deal, and then a world record costs for a defender, was part of the French World Cup-Winning Team in 2018.
