Wrexham has made a daring move for Christian Eriksen after the exit of the Danish midfielder from Manchester United while they want to make an explanation in the transfer market
Wrexham has made a sensational attempt to try to sign Christian Eriksen after his exit of Manchester United. The Red Dragons, owned by Hollywood -star Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, want to make a statement in the transfer market after securing promotion to the championship in April.
Manager Phil Parkinson has so far brought in six new players this summer, including Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie, former Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward and Empoli Left-back Liberato Cacace.
The transfer activity of the Welsh side collected considerable pace this week after the arrivals of Bolton captain George Thomason, ex-Heffield Wednesday Josh Windass and Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien.
It is now reported that Wrexham has also made an approach for Eriksen, who left United this summer. The midfielder, who also turned out during his career for Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan and Brentford, has an impressive CV.
The Danish international has won competition titles in the Netherlands and Italy, as well as English domestic cup wins with United. Eriksen at Wrexham would therefore represent a large coup for the new boys from the championship.
Although it is impressed by the club's offer, the 33-year-old has rejected the opportunity to move to North Wales. According to the agent of Eriksen, Martin Schoot, Eriksen wants to play at the highest level for as long as possible and she was approached by clubs from all over the world, including Saudi -Arabia, the United States, Turkey and Brazil.
Speaking with the Daily Mail said shot: “Wrexham is really everything in the field of both the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people such as Michael Williamson [chief executive] there.
“But Christian still wants to play in a first competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on, but it has to fit both parties.”
The Chief Executive of Wrexham previously worked in Inter Milan in various senior roles between 2014 and 2018. Although Williamson had already left by the time Eriksen arrived in 2020, the American is supposed to get the most out of his Italian contacts to help the Red Dragons recruit.
Eriksen is not the first big name star connected to Wrexham this summer, with Leicester -legend Jamie Vardy and Fulham skipper Tom Cairney would also be the target of the club. Eriksen made 144 performances for his country during his career and scored 46 goals.
He was signed by United in 2022 after he shone for Brentford in the Premier League. The bees brought Eriksen after his recovery after a cardiac arrest, which he suffered on the field at the Euro 2020 tournament.
Eriksen made 107 performances and scored eight goals during his three seasons in United, including a penalty against Aston Villa in his last outing in May. Although Wrexham was not successful in their attempt to lure him to the racecourse ground, it is expected that their transfer activity will continue in the coming weeks while preparing for life in the championship, Wales and Sheffield United Striker Kieffer Moore claimed to be their newest target.
