Alan Shearer has insisted that the loan from Marcus Rashford to Barcelona offers the 27-year-old the opportunity to revitalize his career.
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan in Villa Park after his relationship with Manchester United -boss Ruben Amorim Brak shortly after the Portuguese arrived in Old Trafford.
Barcelona has long been associated with a move for Rashford, and a deal finally flourished this week when he completed a seasonal loan movement to the Catalan club.
The deal also contains an option in front of Hansi Flick to make the move permanent next summer.
After the announcement, Rashford expressed his excitement to play for the club and Shearer claimed that the former English star made the right choice.
“It can be a huge step for Marcus Rashford,” Shearer told Betfair. “That all depends on him.
'I think, and he probably thinks it's time for a reset and if he can forget what happens in the past, the good and the bad, then he has a great opportunity to restart his career.
“It is not much bigger than Barcelona, so Hansi Flick and the club clearly believe in him, they pay his full salary and there is a clause at the end of the loan if they want to sign him permanently, so what a chance for Marcus to reset a career.”
In recent years, Rashford has often been at odds with United, in particular because of observed issues with his attitude.
After the graduate of the United Academy had publicly expressed his wish to leave the club in a Bombshell interview at the end of last year, Amorim asked the advice that Rashford received from his entourage.
Shearer emphasized the mentality of Rashford and insisted that Rashford is only responsible for returning to his best on the field.
“That's what he has to do and that must be the mentality,” he said.
'Only he can answer if he will return to England's team. I do not know him personally, what his state of mind is in terms of where he thinks he is, but I think the entire Barcelona project believes they can get the best out of him, otherwise they would not pay the £ 300,000 a week for him.
He continued: 'I think they did their homework, sit with him and they think it's a chance to take.
'It can be an expensive or it can be a great signature. I don't know it is the answer. '
'We have seen flashes of his best at Aston Villa. They chose not to sign him permanently for whatever reason.
“Barcelona believes that they can get the best out of him and if they can, it can turn out to be a smart signature.
'But you also have to look at it and think that it is a bit of a gamble, because we have not seen anywhere near the heights that he has already touched all those years ago. Only Marcus knows where he is mentally and physical. '
