Morgan Gibbs-White signs new Nottingham Forest contract after Spurs transfer fury

Morgan Gibbs-White was searched by Tottenham earlier this summer, but Spurs' bid of £ 60 million pulled anger from Nottingham Forest that accused the London Club of an illegal approach

Morgan Gibbs-White has remarkably signed a new three-year contract with Nottingham Forest after he was the subject of an £ 60 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs thought they had activated a release clause when they offer Gibbs-White earlier this month, only for Forest to respond furiously and to consider legal steps about what they saw as an illegal approach.

Forest thought that Spurs had not received permission to speak with the midfielder of England and thought that there had been a violation in confidentiality with regard to the conditions in his contract.

Spurs and new boss Thomas Frank had hoped to continue with the signing, but on Saturday evening Forest fans surprised by announcing that Gibbs-White had signed a new three-year deal.

The club said: “A central figure in the revival of Forest premier League and a favorite with fans in the city area, Gibbs-White has underlined its long-term obligation to the club by agreeing with new conditions.

“The deal underlines the ambition of forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, whose vision on European success and the progress of the Premier League continues to shape the future of the club.”

Gibbs-White said: “I felt at home in Forest from the moment I arrived. The support of the fans, my teammates and everyone in the club has been incredible.

“I believe in what we are building here – and with the support of Mr Marinakis and the enormous ambition he has, I want to be part of making something special. I am enthusiastic about what is to come.”

Forest owner Marinakis, who posed with Gibbs-White on photos in honor of the new contract, said: “Morgan is a special player-not only in terms of talent, but character and mentality. He represents everything we want this football club is: he is a winner, talented, ambitious, unfortunate.

“There was a lot of interest from different clubs, but we were determined to build our future with Morgan in its heart. I promised our fans that we would not only compete, but would become stronger and stronger every season. Today there is another big step in that journey.”
