Barcelona does a lot of work to ensure that their well -documented financial problems are solved in the coming years. The sale of players and new sponsorship agreement have helped, and moreover the Catalan club wants to negotiate the conditions of the existing deal they have with Spotify.
Just like how they concluded a new agreement with Nike last year, Barcelona wants to protect better conditions with Spotify, as MD reported. The music streaming platform, which have been the most important sponsors for the sides of the men and ladies since 2022, sees their deal with the La Liga champions expire next summer.
Currently, Barcelona receives around € 75 million per year from Spotify (€ 65 million/annual base plus bonuses (a total of € 70 million), as well as separate payment of € 5 million/year for naming rights in the Camp Nou). However, there is a wish of club officials that the kits sponsorship is now worth € 120 million, which is almost double what they receive now.
The problem for Barcelona is that they are not in an affordable position on this issue, since Spotify can unilaterally extend their existing agreement until 2030 – and with that they would only pay a total of € 80 million/year and it can be extended to 2034, where the total payment per year would be € 90 million.
Barcelona believes that nowadays they are much more tradable because of stars such as Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Raphinha, as well as Femeni stars Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas. This is their justification to believe that kits sponsorship must be appreciated at € 120 million.
It is still to be seen whether Barcelona is able to find a new agreement with Spotify, but they are not in the best position when it comes to negotiations, which is expected to take place in the coming months.
