Dana White once sent a clear message to old UFC fighters who were using a ‘loophole’ to take approved drug

There was a period in the UFC history in which hunters were able to get away with taking a notorious medicine, which helped to stimulate their performance.

Although some fans may not have been the case, the UFC has taken a long way in terms of drug use in sport since the early days.

For years there was a constant controversy about testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which was long legal in sport, and hunters used meshes in the process to enjoy the process.

And although UFC boss Dana White was completely against it, it was unbridled in the sport between some of the older hunters in the promotion.

The TRT problem of the UFC that consistently caused controversy

It was in 2010 when a TRT 'Maas seemed to form in the law after the California State Athletic Commission announced that Chael had tested Sonnen positively at increased testosterone levels after his loss against Anderson Silva on UFC 117.

'The American Gangster' then admitted that he used synthetic testosterone, but demanded that it was only by order of the doctor as part of a medical treatment for hypogonadism, a condition that influences the ability of the body to produce testosterone naturally.

Although he received a suspension, Sonnen later received permission from the Nevada State Athletic Commission to use Testosterone through an exemption from therapeutic use.

This then opened the door for other hunters to follow the example. According to a report from 2014, at least 15 hunters were provided with exemptions during their time in the UFC, one of which was Vorror Belfort.

The story of Belfort was slightly more complex and there was a period in which he exclusively fought outside the US, probably to avoid problems with his increased TRT use.

Dana White sent a message to UFC hunters using TRT 'Maas in the law'

“Vorror's on TRT, everyone knows, I don't like TRT and we test boys who are on TRT to make sure they are within the borders and they do not cheat,” said White during the UFC 160 post-fighting press conference, a week after Belfort Luke Rockhold had switched off.

“I told everyone who is on TRT, maybe if you have to take TRT, you are too old to still fight, that's what I said.

“What I don't like is that boys use this TRT exemption as a Maas in the law to get all refurbished during training and then to get back to normal for the fight, that's what I don't like and that's what I don't want,” White went on.

Fortunately for the sport, TRT was banned in 2014, so that fighters no longer use meshes to increase their testosterone levels and the sport changed at night.
