Barcelona does not plant any further signing sessions for the first team, but they continue to strengthen the youth teams. And they have become a little stronger after confirming a new signing.
Earlier this month it was reported that Barcelona had reached an agreement to sign Lovro Chelfi, which is considered one of the pearls of Croatian football. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is raid incredibly high in his home country and he will now continue his career in Catalonia.
On Tuesday, Barcelona made it official that Chelfi had signed, and they also confirmed that he would start his time in the club with the U19 team.
“(We have reached a) agreement with NK Kustosija for the transfer of the player Lovro Chelfi to Barcelona. He joins the Juvenil a team.”
Chelfi follows in the footsteps of people like Ivan Rakitic and Alen Halilovic as a Croatian player to sign for Barcelona, and he will hope to make a career comparable to that of the first. He will start in the impressive U19 team, which won the UEFA Youth League last season, and he will have opportunities to raise his profile in La Masia – especially because Hansi Flick regularly monitors the club's players.
It will be interesting to see how Chelfi continues in Barcelona. He will have time by his side to impress the Catalan capital, although it will be difficult to break into the first team in the coming years seen how much competition there is for the attacking midfield position.
Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez and Raphinha are some of the options in the first team, while Guille Fernandez – who is considered one of the greatest talents of La Masia – also operates in the position. However, Chelfi will take on the challenge.
