Millwall have confirmed that Neil Harris will step down as head coach after Saturday's match against Middlesbrough.
Harris, who made 374 appearances as a player during his second managerial spell at the club, saved the Lions from relegation last season.
Despite Millwall sitting 11th in the Championship and six points off the play-off places, the 47-year-old has opted to leave the club.
The Lions had gone nine games unbeaten before losing 1-0 to Frank Lampard's Coventry City on Saturday in what was the former Chelsea midfielder's first win since taking over the Sky Blues.
However, Harris will remain in position for Wednesday's match against league leaders Sheffield United and then away at Middlesbrough this weekend before leaving.
Millwall chairman James Berylson said: “At the start of 2024 we found ourselves in a difficult situation. Neil came in and, together with his technical staff, stimulated the team.
“Through action and leadership he guided Millwall to great form, securing our return to Championship football this season.
“I would like to thank Neil for all his efforts since returning to the club and we will be forever grateful for that.
“After discussions with Neil in recent days he felt it was the right time to resign as a result of the Middlesbrough game and I have accepted his decision.”
#Millwall Football Club can confirm that a mutual decision has been reached with Neil Harris to step down from his role as head coach following the Lions' visit to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

In a letter to fans explaining his departure, Harris wrote: “Today I announce that I will be leaving Millwall Football Club after Saturday's match against Middlesbrough.
“This is not an easy decision because everyone knows that this club is more than a job for me. It is my club and it always will be.
“Being here always felt like home, as a player, as a captain and as a manager. We are a family and it has been my life for so many years. But when I came back, I always said I would leave when the time was right, and now the time has come.
“Coming back last season and all the highlights that came with it will never be equaled again. It was one of the highlights of my career. We fought together as a team, as fans and as a united football club.
“We have some special characters on this team. They are committed and hungry to do well. With the right encouragement and support, I am sure they can achieve great things.
“I would like to thank all the staff at the club for their loyalty and support, and especially the owner, James Berylson, for welcoming me back. It was fantastic working with him and I will always be grateful for the wonderful friendship we shared.
“We have the most passionate fans in the country and your support means the world to me. We are often misunderstood, but Millwall's unique character is what makes us so special.
“I wish all my friends at Millwall Football Club the best for the rest of the season and see you soon. Ax.”
