Liverpool owners open talks for €100m deal with La Liga club

Liverpool -owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are moving forward with plans to buy a second club in Spain. Getafe are the club in question, and it seems that conversations are going in the right direction.

According to athletics, that says that Getafe President and owner Angel Torres was not entirely fair earlier this month, when he stated that the club was not for sale, and that his exit was 'far away'. Los Azulones has long been spoken as a possible change of property, with links to FSG the most recent.

FSG reportedly built up a good relationship with Torres during the conversations, and after he had previously established an asking price of € 185 million, he would now be willing to do business around € 116 million. That said, Torres would like to complete the renovation work in the Colosseum, which will be completed in 2028, whereby the training ground will receive a makeover over and the stadium roof is being expanded completely around the ground.

In the past year, Liverpool has been in conversation with Malaga and Bordeaux about a possible takeover, among other things, but FSG seemed to have paid their attention to Getafe. No timeline is given for a possible agreement. The athletics also state that when Michael Edwards was appointed as Chief Football Executive in 2024, an obligation to acquire another club was called.

While Getafe is sometimes mentioned as the ugly brother or sister of the more glamorous clubs of Madrid, players moving there from good training facilities and the club can attract players to live in the Spanish capital. Los Azulones have become a fixture in La Liga, with various trips to Europe, which also offer stability, despite the lack of considerable investments.
