Manchester United are 'open' to cashing in on Marcus Rashford as Sir Jim Ratcliffe tries to solve a major problem.
The Red Devils academy graduate is in the midst of a stuttering campaign that has seen him score just seven goals in 23 appearances in all competitions. That form comes after a season in which he scored only eight times.
Rashford still has three and a half years left on his contract at Old Trafford. The 60-fold UK international banks charge around £325,000 per week.
And that is one of the main reasons why the Red Devils are keen to cash in on Rashford. According to reports in Germany, United could be open to selling him in January, while they could also make offers next summer.
Should they manage to offload his high wages, it could potentially give the club more agility in the transfer market. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has placed particular importance on the Red Devils adhering to the Premier League's profit and sustainability spending rules since his arrival, and a significant sale would help enormously.
Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for Rashford in the past, while a move to Saudi Arabia could be an option, according to The Telegraph. United boss Amorim recently gave his opinion on Rashford, claiming the forward must be the driving force behind any revival.
“We will try to find the right solution for him, but he has to be Marcus first and foremost to try to get back to that moment,” he said. “Then he will get all the help from the staff, the club and the fans, because he is a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first to want it.”
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim has admitted he is still trying to figure out Rashford's best position in his system. After a draw against Ipswich in his opening game, he added: “That position [against Ipswich] is not the best for him. Especially in such a game he fought with two giants [the centre-backs] and we will try to find the right solution for him.”
Rashford, 27, has made a total of 425 appearances for United since making his debut in the 2015/2016 season. Since then he has scored 138 goals and provided 67 assists.
Since his arrival, he has enjoyed a mini-revival under Amorim with three goals in four Premier League matches. Rashford will look to extend that form in the coming week.
The Red Devils travel to Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday. They then travel to the Etihad at the weekend for a showdown with rivals Manchester City.
