Barcelona is again on the whims of their salary limit this summer in their attempt to add new players to the play team. Last summer, new signing sessions saw Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registered for the rule for emergency injuries, activated after Andreas Christensen was excluded. Barcelona looks again as if they will turn to the rule.
This time it would be to register new goalkeeper Joan Garcia, signed for € 25 million from Rivals Espanyol. Captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen has undergone an operation this week and will be excluded for about four months, although the German goalkeeper has disputed it.
It has been emphasized that Ter Stegen must sign when submitting his medical report to La Liga to have the injury rule activated. However, Alex Pintanel has tweeted that the Blaugrana is convinced that Ter Stegen will not cause any further problems. Barcelona will only be able to use Ter Stegen's salary limit costs to register Garcia if it is less than five months, and they can only use the space to a goalkeeper.
Pintanel further explains that Barcelona is convinced that they register all their new additions, Garcia, Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji (although he could be registered with Barca Atletic), before their first League match against RCD Mallorca on August 16.
This has also been expressed by vice-president Rafa Yuste to Sport in recent weeks, but Fans of Barcelona would be justified in their skepticism.
“I'm going to talk to Deco. He has concluded a number of important deals and we are very optimistic about signing players. Everything is almost here. Rules sometimes change quickly, but I am optimistic. The commercial department works with new sponsors. We are now completed from possible extra income streams.”
Barcelona recently announced a new sponsorship agreement with Dr. Congo, who is expected to add € 10-11 million per season to their bills. Moreover, they have earned € 23 million back to the sale of Pau Victor, Alex Valle and Pablo Torre, in addition to saving on the wages of Clement Lenglet. A sold-out reimbursement in the Jean-Clair Todibo contract takes that total to around € 42 million this summer.
