Manchester United Spits Rasmus Hojlund has insisted that he is not worried about the club's striving for Benjamin Sesko and believes that the signing of a new center-forward will “sharpen” him “
Rasmus Hojlund says that he is not stunned by the search of Manchester United for a new striker and has supported himself to prove his value. United is insisting on signing RB Leipzigs £ 70 million appreciated Benjamin Sesko, to replace Hojlund as the first optional faker of Ruben Amorim, with Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa also a target.
But Hojlund, signed from Atalanta for £ 72 million two years ago, said that he would welcome every new competition and claimed that it would “sharpen” him instead of draining him. Asked if he had received some guarantees from the club about his position, Hojlund said: “Nothing so far.
“I think that the most important thing for me is to keep working hard and staying focused and then of course we will see what is happening. I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to keep fighting for my place, whatever happens. Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me, it is more than ready. I feel sharp, so I welcome everything that comes.
“I am still very young. I think people sometimes forget that. I am only only 22. Of course, not every striker at the age of 22 scores 100 goals. But I have learned a lot, I think you can see in my game.
“I am starting to develop and get even better in the base. Now it is almost for me to sharpen myself and I have done it very well in the preseason so far.
United suffered their worst Premier League campaign last season and finished 15th, in which Hojlund managed only 10 goals in all competitions, including a stretch of 21 games where he could not find the back of the net.
The Denmark International, who scored the opener in the 4-1 victory of Bournemouth over the Chicago soldier field to continue their winning run on their American pre-season tour, admitted that he was far from expectations last season.
“I think it was a bit rough after last season and I tried to grind myself in the course of the holiday and I feel very, very good,” Hojlund said. “It was clearly a difficult season for all of us. I think I should have done better, I think everyone knows.
“But I also think it's a team thing that we'll get better now. I think we've now shown in these two games that we are progressing in the right way and looking forward to what is coming. When I came [to United]Anthony Martial was there too.
“He had a lot of injuries, so I clearly had to take a lot of playing time. That is just a part of it – you are not going to tell me that I should not play because I want to play every game.
“But I could have done some help to share the games a bit, especially in the beginning, but I feel that I have grown up a lot and I feel that I am ready for what is coming.”
Hojlund revealed the close band he has developed with United and Denmark teammate Patrick Dorgu helped him to cope with the difficult times he has had to deal with in the past two years.
“We have a very good relationship,” said Hojlund. “There is only one year between us and we have many ordinary friends. We also come from the same kind of area in Denmark and we are really starting to bind.
“I also had a very, very good relationship with Christian Eriksen and with Victor Lindelof, but there was a bit of an age gap. It will be a bit on Big Brother and Little Brother, while I and Patrick also look a bit more the same in terms of age.”
