Ruben Amorim went against expectations when changing
Ruben Amorim's decision to include Youngster Ethan Williams in the Manchester United team for their pre-season tour through the US seems to be bearing fruit. The 19-year-old was not expected to be part of the traveling cohort, but scored on Thursday against Bournemouth.
The Red Devils achieved two victories of two in the Premier League Summer Series when they defeated the Cherries 4-1 in Chicago, after they had already brought West Ham to the sword on Sunday. Rasmus Hojlund opened the score after eight minutes, with Patrick Dorgu adding another one before the break.
Amad Diallo delivered their third in 53 minutes, and only a minute after he came instead of the Ivorian, Williams wiped home after a brilliant run by Diego Leon.
Williams was initially not expected to travel to the US in the light of an expected loan movement, but Amorim now picks the rewards after he has reversed this decision, after he had taken a real shine for the English talent.
According to the Daily Mail, Williams, who scored twice during the second half of last season, was expected to be excluded from United's pre-season tour.
Allegedly this decision was taken as an abundance of League One clubs were interested in the on loan of Williams. Head coach Amorim, however, changed ideas after he had kept the Wideman.
“It was at the last minute,” Williams said the club's website after Thursday's victory. “I was told a bit that I wasn't [going] And then I was. I remember that I just didn't jump into the bedroom, but I buzzed.
“I tried to train well because these guys are the best players I have ever trained with, knowing what I mean to be around and to learn every day is a real blessing and I am just grateful for everything.”
Williams did not see Gametime in the 2-1 victory of the Red Devils over West Ham in New Jersey at the weekend, but made an immediate impact on Soldier Field and cut an exuberant figure after the game.
“It's crazy, I can't believe it,” he said. “It is still not really sunk, to be honest. It is a dream come true and I am so happy now. I am thinking of all the moments, all the hard work I have experienced.
“You know, I feel so blessed and so happy to get this chance. To score, it's crazy. I can't even explain how I feel, to be honest. I have already sent my father a message. He has done so much hard work, he has sacrificed everything for me and my little brother to do this.
“I was right on the phone, sent him, [saying] I can't believe I just scored. He said, “I told you.” Because we had been manifesting it for a while. For me to finally take this experience, and actually continue it and score, it is a strange feeling. “
Although it is still likely that Williams will be sent on loan after the pre -season has been completed, Amorim may have received something to think about with this cameo, especially given the following admission of the winger.
“It is clear that I want to stay here and of course my goal is to play for the first team in the long term,” the 19-year-old Williams added. “It would be a dream.”
