Ruben Amorim's first summer transfer window as Manchester United boss has seen the club spend more than £ 100 million, and further signing sessions of large money can be on the road
The Manchester United striker suggests that they have passed the approach that the time of Erik ten Hag was in charge. Director of Recruitment Christopher Vivell seems to take the lead in the search for a new No. 9, despite the apparent preferences of Ruben Amorim.
United has tried to streamline their reconnaissance operation in an attempt to put an end to the poor recruitment of recent years. Poor investments have left the club to fight to load high-earning stars that are excess to the requirements, and the goal this summer is to come back on the right track.
According to Talksport, Amorim would prefer a movement for Ollie Watkins. He has already signed two players with Premier League experience in the form of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and in Watkins Amorim has aimed at a third.
However, the same publication suggests that Vivell leads a push for an alternative target in the form of Benjamin Sesko. Slovenia frontman Sesko would cost a little more – with RB Leipzig after a fee in the £ 70 million region – but he is a few years younger than Watkins.
United are not the only ones who would like Sesko, with Newcastle who wants to bring the former Red Bull Salzburg star to St James' Park. However, Vivell and main negotiator Matt Hargreaves would follow a practical approach, in which Sesko is expected to make a decision in the coming days.
Villas £ 60 million asking price for Watkins also seems to pay to the north of what United is willing. Reports earlier this week suggested that they investigated a player-plus-cash deal with Alejandro Garnacho, but there has been no movement on that front.
However, Sesko seems to be the best target. And it seems to show a level of joint thinking on the recruitment front that was not always present under earlier ownership – or, indeed, at the start of the term of office of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Ratcliffe has dropped out the United Scouting team since he took the lead. And now the former Chelsea and RB Leipzig Man Vivell – who became permanently members earlier this year after a temporary role during the transfer window of the summer of 2024 – had taken on a practical role.
United has sent a number of players on loan while they are preparing for the new campaign. Marcus Rashford will spend the season in Barcelona, while Dan Gore has made a temporary switch to Rotherham, and the Red Devils confirmed on Friday that Ethan Wheatley joined Northhampton to a year -long deal.
“He played in the Premier League for Manchester United at the age of 18 and does not do that without having much skills,” said Northampton -Baas Kevin Nolan after the arrival of the young person was announced. “I have seen enough of him to know what he is all about, what his attributes are and to believe that he can come in and be a good addition to us.”
