Mac Allister opened the scoring in the win over Real Madrid but will miss the Reds' second consecutive UCL match against the Spanish opponent.
Following their 2-0 Champions League win over Real Madrid at Anfield, Liverpool travel to Girona to record their second successive win over Spanish opponents on Tuesday and keep their perfect record intact in the league stage. However, Arne Slot cannot call on the important midfielder Alexis Mac Allister in Catalonia on matchday six.
Mac Allister's absence in Girona explained
The Argentinian scored the opening goal in the victory over Madrid two weeks ago, although that came after he had received a yellow card in the fortieth minute. Because Mac Allister had also received a yellow card on matchdays one (against AC Milan) and matchday three (against RB Leipzig), he received a one-match suspension, which he now has to serve in Girona.
The 25-year-old has already played in every game for the Reds this season in the Premier League, Champions League and League Cup, starting 17 of the team's first 21 matches in all competitions.
Liverpool team news for Girona: Konaté, Jota, Chiesa…
Slot will also have to make do without central defender Ibrahima Konaté, who is ruled out until the end of January due to a knee injury. Forwards Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa are also still sidelined, as are full-backs Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas.
Having won each of their first five league games, Liverpool are so far the only team guaranteed a play-off place in the knockout stages (a top 24 finish). Earning a place in the round of 16 (a place in the top eight) will now be their main goal, which they could achieve against Girona on Tuesday.
