Anthony Gordon was subject to transfer over a possible move to Liverpool last summer and the attention of the Reds is now on Alexander Isak after they saw a first offer rejected
Anthony Gordon admitted that he would leave Newcastle for Liverpool last summer and revealed that he has sympathy for StillaWay Forway Alexander Isak, which is currently being chased by the Reds.
The magpies have rejected an offer for Isak from Arne Slot's Side 12 months after Gordon's Near-Exit. A deal that Gordon would have seen go to Anfield was investigated when Newcastle tried to manage the Premier League profit and sustainability rules, but in the end the attacker remained in St James' Park.
This summer Isak wants the chance to leave, despite the fact that Newcastle is determined that it is not for sale.
It is, however, understood that the magpies would like a compensation of at least £ 150 million to give up their valued property, which scored 27 goals in the past term. Isak is currently absent in the tour and training of his current club only in real sociedad.
And in the midst of uncertainty, Gordon has sympathy for his teammate and is relieved that he has no other summer of speculation. “Yes, as far as I am concerned, I am not linked to clubs and I am very happy where I am. I enjoy my football again and I feel refreshed,” Gordon said.
“It was difficult for me because I had the euros, which was mentally for me terrible for me. I was there, I didn't play,” said the Newcastle star last summer.
“Then I had the transfer items. With PSR I thought I would leave in the window at a certain point. It didn't happen. I had to deal with that, and then it was difficult to get my head to get it. I am a human being.
“It's really difficult. That's why I understand what Alex is going through at the moment.”
“The last three years have been mentally exhausting for me,” Gordon continued, after a series of summers who saw him connected to Chelsea and Tottenham before he came to Newcastle.
“Football became like a chore – there was always so much noise around me. There were so many matches and I never had a summer off. It finally let me tap. This year I had a full summer off, five or six weeks, with my family and friends.
“You can see it, I am really renewed. I have my appetite back for football and my hunger back. I feel that.
“I also feel for him for Alex. It is difficult. People forget that you are a person in that scenario. He will go through a lot. The club will continue a lot. I hope everyone will eventually get what they want.”
Former Everton star Gordon emphasized the difficulties for the team in the midst of the discussions about Isak. The 24-year-old says that the magpies were left in the dark about the details around the situation.
“It's hard for us, because we can only do so much,” he said. “We don't really know much. People always think that players know the ins and outs, and the reality is that we don't do that. You (journalists) usually tell us!
“Listen, it's just noise; there is not much that we can do. That is a question for the manager, because I think he probably feels more, or for people who are higher in the club. As players you just have to play. Do what is needed from us and do the basis.”
