Barcelona -defender Pau Cubarsi hinted that the coming season last year could see a change in the much -discussed line of defense of the Blaugrana. The Catalan giants printed high all season, sometimes with the line of defense almost halfway, and was heavily criticized before it helped Hansi to win a domestic Treble in his first season in Spain.
Initially, the high attacking line was naive and vulnerable, but victories on Bayern Munich and Real Madrid changed the story somewhat. In the second half of the season, Barcelona was less dedicated to push so high, but it was still a central principle of their game.
Cubarsi, however, has suggested that there are some changes in the urgent system of Barcelona this season.
“He told us that we should be ourselves and that we trust each other, and that we have to impose a different pace,” Cubarsi revealed to TV3.
In the meantime with regard to the approach of Barcelona for the 2025-26 season, Cubarsi explained that Flick again required 'High pressing for 90 minutes'. However, that can come up with comments.
“It may not be as exaggerated as last year, but we will follow the same style.”
Cubarsi also continued with the CaptainCy debate in the club. That revolves around Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, but Cubarsi also had a positive assessment about his potential replacement in Doel, Joan Garcia.
“We were both part of the team for the 2024 Olympic Games, we have points in common, we come from the village. We have an affinity in that respect, he is a spectacular man and I really like him.”
Barcelona managed to surpass the majority of opposition last season, but their rivals will have had a summer to continue working potential vulnerabilities in their high line. Flick was adamant last season. The problems were more often in their urgent further on the field when it was exposed. The German coach will have to figure out whether he should plan more imperfections this season, and perhaps more room to attack, or whether planning just needs more polishing.
