‘It’s not our title, it’s for the fans’… Dan Hooker slams Michael Chandler for his post-UFC 309 fight callout

Top lightweight contender Dan Hooker isn't too impressed with Michael Chandler's fight call after UFC 309 and has slammed his former rival.

Despite a very disappointing loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 last Saturday, Michael Chandler was given the opportunity to speak on the microphone.

The 38-year-old hoped that a win over 'Do Bronx' would give him the opportunity to fight for the undisputed title, but his plans now had to change.

Of course, Chandler remains hopeful he can secure a fight against Conor McGregor after their scheduled fight in June was canceled, calling out 'The Notorious' after his loss.

However, knowing that he is unlikely to fight the Irishman next, he also called for a possible BMF title fight against current champion, Max Holloway.

“I got a lot of calls, I had to show up tonight, do my job and win the fight. Forget Islam (Makhachev), Charles does that next.

“Maybe Max Holloway for the BMF belt. Or Conor McGregor, if you can ever get your house in order again… Come back and beat me, if you can,” Chandler said in his Octagon interview.

Chandler's call for a BMF title fight has been rejected by his former rival and top 10 lightweight, Dan Hooker.

'Iron' Mike knocked out Hooker in his highly anticipated UFC debut in 2021, but since then 'The Hangman' has enjoyed a career resurgence and has overtaken Chandler.

“I don't like Chandler calling for the BMF (title fight),” Hooker said in an interview with Submission Radio.

“Like: why does everyone keep throwing their hands up for the BMF? It's not up to us. It's not our title. It's the BMF. The BMF title is for the fans. As if it's up to the fans. People need to stop clamoring for the BMF title, brother,” Hooker continued.

The Kiwi has previously speculated about fighting for the BMF title and after a four-man tournament was proposed to UFC CEO Dana White, Hooker expressed his interest.

With Hooker now on a three-fight win streak, he hopes to secure a big fight against Holloway or Justin Gaethje.

Despite this, the 34-year-old believes 'Blessed' Holloway will want to take a significant amount of time off and he is not prepared to wait for that potential fight.

Although promotion for UFC 312 will take place in February in Sydney, Australia, Hooker has revealed that he and his wife are expecting a baby so he will not be appearing at the UFC's return down under.
