Lionel Messi sustained a hamstring injury and was removed in the 11th minute of Saturday's Leagues Cup match against Necaxa in the Chase Stadium of Fort Lauderdale.
The 38-year-old Argentinian superstar seemed to be treated on his upper right leg or Lies before he made his exit under his own strength and walked to the dressing room.
It was later described as hamstring discomfort.
“Well, he felt an inconvenience, and we will only be able to know tomorrow how serious the injury is,” said coach Javier Mascherano after the game.
“There is probably something there. Maybe not that important, because he really had no pain. But he felt an attraction.”
Messi took the ball and dripped into the Necaxa -but he stumbled at the top of the box and ran Necaxa -defender Alexis Pena, then tumbled on the floor and hit the field in frustration while the ball was cleared.
Moments later, the Captain Messi was only near the midfield on the left wing only when he went to the ground in a sitting position, briefly on his back until trainers arrived.
Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano chose to send Federico Redondo to replace Messi.
During the Argentinian World Cup qualifications in March, Messi was nagged by thigh tension issues.
Messi scored 18 goals and helped with nine others in 18 ml performances this season.
He helped both goals from Inter Miami in a 2-1 win over Atlas on Wednesday in their opener in the Leagues Cup, a tournament with MLS and Mexican competition squadrons.
Miami concludes group stage in the event on Wednesday against Pumas.
Messi led Inter Miami to the inaugural Leagues Cup Crown in 2023 just after his arrival at the MLS Club.
