Celta Vigo could generate further registration complications for Barcelona

Barcelona tries to register a number of players before their opening match of the La Liga season 2025-26 against Mallorca, which includes new signing Joan Garcia and the recurring Wojciech Szczesny. It is hoped that both keepers will be admitted to Hansi Flick's MatchDay team for the trip to son Moix, but they will not be able to do that for now.

In combination with Marc-Andre ter Stegen's long-term absence after a back surgery, the situation with Garcia and Szczesny means that Inaki Pena is currently the only registered first team goalkeeper of Barcelona for the 2025-26 season. Nevertheless, it is expected that he will leave before the end of the summer, given that he is not in Flick's plans for the coming campaign.

However, it is possible that Pena leaves before Garcia and/or SZCZESNY are registered, with sports report that Celta Vigo is considering signing it. Ionut Radu, who was signed by the Galicians earlier in the summer, made no impression during the preseason, so there is a chance that another keeper will be brought in.

Nevertheless, Barcelona has made it clear that they are not willing to sell Pena until at least one of Garcia or Szczesny is registered with La Liga. It is hoped that this will happen before the season opener against Mallorca, but if not, this would mean that the 26-year-old would be the starter at Son Moix.

It is very logical for Barcelona and Pena to start ways before the end of the summer transfer window, because his sale would generate money and free space in the club's salary account. However, the timing must be good to ensure that there will be no problems with the goalkeeper department in the coming weeks.
